Racers Guild September 2011

Conditions- Hero Dirt.

Many of you will remember the old CDL (Chris Derrys Line) which got thoroughly pummelled during the tree felling works by the Forestry Commission last year.

The new version of CDL took its influence from the original line, being a bit offcamber & rooty, then over the ‘woodbank’, some slower corners then opening out again on almost the original line. New CDL was last used for a Racers Guild in December 2010, its been tweeked a little bit since then to make it last longer and the off camber rooty has a nice but tricky sweeping S shape which naturally replaced the tight right hander round a tree. It’s a relatively slow trail with the bike often lent over one way or the ether, no need to brake too much but little opportunity for hard cranking either.

Conditions were almost perfect, warm, no wind & the previous weeks rain helped alot, not only for grip but also for keeping the trail relatively intact. Few other events on elsewhere so 63 riders turned up with most getting 3 runs in.

In the Youths (15 and under) Adam Yates got a time which would have put him well into top 20 seniors, Shane Johnson got the most runs on the day and Dan Marshall is awarded the best broken ribs of the day award, all Youths were flying and showing real progress.

Thankfully Suzy Osborn spoiled the sausage fest and for that she wins for the Ladies!

Top 10 seniors all got under 1 minute, but in a good upset it was Mitch Ingleby who got fastest time with a 55.5 and Ben Worrall edging out Adam Halling. Woodbank humps which are not doubles were doubled, something I’ve often pondered on the possibility of. A good few crashes took place, thank fully nothing needing medical attention, after all you cant do anything for broken ribs or bruised ego’s. Retro carbon bikes also seem tougher than many modern machines, because that K2 (although I’m sure it really is a Proflex) took a right hammering, as did the owners Troy Lee noggin shroud.

Big boys category was without its mentor, One Eyed Willy Whyte was relegated to the start line all day so Lee Pettitt took the honours with Paul Fowkes and Neil Edgar coming in next.

Thanks to all the marshalls and helpers and everyone turning up for trail building days. There has been a lot of work done on the trails this year but still got just as much again to do. Most of this is planned in advance so its scheduled work, we know whats needed to be done, such as extending the Mega Trail, redoing the lower Black and Red, altering lower Wonderland, rebuilding Walleater from scratch & tweaking lower Ridgeline. The above list can be added to if you think something else needs work, but please share it with us and turn up to help us make it reality quicker and doing it properly so it will last. A few trailbuilding days with a good turn out can have massive positive effect on the trails so please, pretty please give us a hand if you can- meet fellow riders and have a laugh, sometimes you might even get fed and watered.
